Yiddish Studies

The department offers courses in Yiddish language, literature, and culture, including courses in English translation. The courses in Yiddish language aim to develop students' ability to read, write, comprehend, and speak Yiddish. These courses also introduce students to the history of the Yiddish language and its literature and to major themes of the Jewish experience.    

Advanced cources are intended for students with interst in Yiddish teaching, scholarship, and journalism, as well as for for those interested in other Jewish sudies, including Hebrew language and literature, Jewish history, Jewish thought and the sociology of the Jewish community. Students are encouraged to partake of the rich Yiddish cultural life of New York City and to participate in the program of the Yiddish Culture Club at Queens College.
