Aid awarded through the Financial Aid Office is based primarily on financial need. The following resources at Queens College might be helpful in finding private scholarships, other merit-based grant awards, and non-work-study jobs:

• Undergraduate Admissions Office  for awards to entering undergraduate students
• Graduate Admissions Office and your graduate department for awards to graduate students.
• Office of Honors and Scholarships  (Honors Hall), and their website at http://www.qc.cuny.edu/Academics/Honors/scholarships/Pages/default.aspx ; the office is also an important resource for nationwide scholarships and fellowships for students applying to graduate school programs.
• Academic department listings of their awards in the Undergraduate and Graduate Bulletins and on their websites.  Many of these are prizes awarded at graduation, but some are awards to continuing students.
• Academic departments and pre-professional advisement offices.

• Find books that list college scholarships  --- go to the reference section of public libraries for these.
• Does your job, union, organization (or a parent's job, union, organization) sponsor an award program?
• Try some of the free web-based scholarship searches.
• Use other web-based references for suggestions that might highlight resources for certain areas of interest or categories of students.

• Do not pay to get a scholarship!

• Use the same cautions you use regularly on the web.  Safeguard your privacy while still giving enough information for the scholarship search to be useful.
• If you don't feel comfortable entering personal information requested by a website, DON'T DO IT.
