On both a theoretical and practical level, the Equity Studies Research Center (ESRC) creates avenues toward equitable academic and employment opportunities for urban youth and their families. It seeks to close the gap in accessing education for minorities and immigrants, and to bring an interdisciplinary approach to the framework of educational success.

As it examines equity from educational, political, social, aesthetic, economic, and historical contexts, ESRC takes into account what it means to succeed in an academically challenging environment. Its mission also includes developing and tracking innovative programs; conducting research-based professional development for teachers, parents, and the community; and making its findings known on a local, regional, and national level. Faculty from QC’s Division of  Education and from the college’s liberal arts and sciences programs take part in the center’s initiatives and foster partnerships with the organizations and institutions where they study and advance equity.
