The TitleHistorical Contribution of Koreans to Chinese Culture

Presenter
: Dr. Chai-Shin Yu, Distinguished Professor of Korean Studies, Department of East Asian Studies, University of Toronto

Summary
: Many simply think that East Asian culture and its thought were developed and influenced only by China, or it rooted in China. But Korea has a five thousand year history which encompasses many independent philosophies and culture, and the truth is that East Asian culture was established  harmoniously by China and Korea  together because over the past centuries, a large number of Koreans have actively contributed to the advancement of Chinese culture. I would like to prove the documentary evidence of  some of these examples such as General Ko Sunji,  monk Wonchk, Hye Cho, Wonhyo, Chae Chi Won, Tóegye.

I brought from China the records about more than 1000 Koreans who contributed to China’s politics, religions and culture in the past .  Generally, people think that only Chinese culture influenced Korea, but as I will explain it, countless Korean scholars contributed to Chinese culture. Therefore East Asian religious culture was developed and achieved by China and Korea together.
