At Queens College, Professor Segal teaches new courses in Bible and rabbinic literature in addition to Modern Hebrew language and literature, a comparative course on religious narratives, and courses for the Department of Comparative Literature, including an advanced seminar on "Gender and Lyric Poetry."

Professor Segal's research interests include language politics, prosody and poetic language, Zionism and modern Hebrew literary history; modern uses of tradition; Yiddish and Russian influences on Hebrew literature.

A developing area of interest is the transition between late biblical and early rabbinic law.

A New Sound in Hebrew Poetry, Professor Segal's book on the transition in poetry and spoken Hebrew from Ashkenazic pronunciations to new accent Hebrew, was published in 2010. She also co-edited a volume of essays on the embarrassment of Scripture, Vixens Disturbing Vineyards, that came out the same year.

Her current book-length project is on gender and authorship.
