Study: Bilingual Early Language and Literacy Acquisition (BELLA)

Research Assistants:  Angela Giraldo, Justina Parmiter, Cindy Paredes

The purpose of this research is to train parents as language-literacy mediators with their preschool children with language impairment.  We focus on measuring vocabulary growth (Spanish-English) and in describing changes in early literacy practices in the homes.  This project is aimed at the needs of first-generation immigrant Hispanic families, with children experiencing problems in language acquisition. Parents participate in 8 parent-training workshops and receive interactive picture books in their home-language to work with their children.

We are currently recruiting families.  If interested in participating, contact Dr. Ijalba.
