The comments of Xavier
D’Anfrasio are eloquent enough about the significance of this experience
for the students who had the opportunity to go on the trip:
This
voyage that was sprouted by the mind of Profesora Peña and was
supported by all of you has been one of my greatest memories of Queens
College. I wish all of you who had worked on this project could have
experienced it with me and my classmates. This voyage was extremely
useful in developing a greater understanding of the course material,
visiting the places I have read about gave life to these sites. It made
the history and people jump from the pages and into not only my mind
but my being. Queens College has been such a blessing to me and I am
overwhelmed with pride to know that there are people here who take the
educational experiences of others seriously, this is one of the reasons I
became a Hispanic Literature major. To be able to sit in the classroom
with inspiring professors fill me with hope and fire that one day I too
will inspire students to elevate their education as they have done for
me. Thank you to the professors and staff for standing by the interest
and well being of students and pushing against conformity by breaking
norms of not only education but of interaction as well. This trip helped
me to experience a rich ancient culture first hand, with its beautiful
people and traditions. Everyone, every place and everything that
occurred on this great voyage was to solidify my desire to study
Hispanic Literature, to become an educator and to merely continue
learning about how to better this world that we share.
