In keeping with the College's motto "Discimus ut Serviamus" (We Learn so that We May Serve), the Department of Special Collections pursues a Collection Development policy that documents the College's institutional history and preserves the social and cultural contributions of its faculty and students. Our collection focuses: Civil Rights; Performing Arts; Print History; the history of New York City; and the College's commitment to community engagement and advancement.
It is the mandate of the Department to collect materials that both supports the college curriculum and engages students with primary source materials, 21st century strategies for historical documentation, and teaches the importance of archives to formations of social and cultural authority.
