Declaration of Major

This page provides information about the steps you will take to declare an accounting major.

It will be helpful for you to also refer to our Major Curriculum page where you will find a listing of each of the required and elective course options along with course descriptions. We have organized this listing by class standing. Should you choose to declare an accounting major, this will help you create a semester by semester plan of the courses you need to complete for the major.

  • The Academic Advising Center (Kiely Hall Room 217) will offer a series of workshops prior to the start of the semester. When you participate in one of the scheduled workshops, an academic advisor will evaluate your existing college credits and determine the corresponding courses/credits that will apply toward your Bachelor's degree here at Queens College. Depending on the courses you have taken, certain accepted courses/credits will apply toward the major in Accounting.
  • Go to 'Next Steps' to view additional information about declaring a major in Accounting.

When you participate in one of the scheduled workshops, an academic advisor will evaluate your existing college credits and determine the corresponding courses/credits that will apply toward your Bachelor's degree here at Queens College. However, Professor Stevens of the Department of Accounting & Information systems must evaluate whether any courses/credits you have taken will apply toward the major in Accounting. Contact Professor Stevens to arrange an appointment: Michael.Stevens@qc.cuny.edu.
  • Go to "Next Steps" to view additional information about declaring a major in Accounting.
  • Complete the accounting concentration form. This becomes your roadmap toward successfully meeting the accounting major requirements during your tenure at the College. On the concentration form, you must indicate the class standing, semester, and year in which you have completed the course ("Actual") or plan to enroll in the course ("Planned") including your choice of electives. Carefully consider whether each course has a prerequisite or corequisite requirement and plan accordingly.

  • With respect to the 'suggested class standing' for each course, primary class standing is required but the lower or upper designation is suggested (for example if the "suggested class standing" for the course is Upper Junior you must be at least a Junior when you plan to take the course, but the Department recommends Upper Junior standing).

  • Next to last step! When you bring in your completed concentration form you will be assigned to a faculty advisor with the date and time of your appointment. Be prepared with any questions/concerns you might have about the program, and preparing for a successful career. During the meeting you will also review your concentration form and if complete your advisor will approve it.

  • Last step! Take your signed major declaration form to the One Stop Service Center (Dining Hall, Room 128) and you're done. Congratulations!
