Civil Rights documentary, "Freedom Riders," by Stanley Nelson

Wednesday, February 19, 2014 12:15 PM

Campbell Dome

In May 1961, integrated groups of black and white CORE volunteers got on Greyhound and Trailways busses in Washington, DC, to test new federal rules about interstate travel and to challenge segregation in the South. The volunteers were trained in and committed to a policy of “nonviolent direct action.” They were met with violence and arrest – but their courageous example influenced others and brought about many changes. Would you have been a Freedom Rider?
