Dr. Peishi Wang along with five graduate students in special education will venture to the People’s Republic of China from July 1 through August 8, as part of QC’s partnership with Beijing Wucailu Children’s Center in China (BWCC). While there, the students will complete ECPSE 725--an Internship in Severe Disabilities--and work closely with children with autism and other developmental disabilities at BWCC.
Wang describes this experience as an opportunity for her students to understand global issues. “I’d like for our students to gain more understanding of disability issues in other parts of the world--for example, how disability is perceived in China and how families cope with disabilities," Wang said. "I am also hoping they will have multiple opportunities to observe and practice implementing evidence-based instruction, differentiated instruction and develop confidence in their teaching and collaboration skills.”
As part of their internship, the candidates will exchange ideas with teachers at the Center and participate in parent training workshops under Wang’s supervision. “I will be holding weekly seminars and supervise their internship, in a similar manner to how it is taught in New York,” says Wang.
The candidates selected for this internship were interviewed by QC special education faculty and a BWCC exchange student Ms. Mei Liu, a clinical supervisor from Wucailu who came to QC to study for her Master’s Degree in Special Education.
