SPIRITAS: Admission and Information Sessions

Pre-Requisite: A Bachelor’s degree with a major in a science discipline.

Admissions to the SPIRITAS Program: - a 4 step process

1. Come to an information session: Learn about the program, the expectations, and the schedule. All persons interested in this program must attend an information session. Skype sessions are available for non-New York City residents by contacting Dr. Laurenson.

Session Dates:
 

February 5th, Tuesday at the Graduate Teacher Education Open House -4:00pm to 6:00pm in the Student Union Building 4th Floor

February 7th, Thursday at 11:00am and 5:00pm

February 11th, Monday at 12:00pm noon

February 13th, Wednesday at 10:00am and 4:00pm

February 19th, Tuesday at 1:00pm and 6:00pm

February 27th, Wednesday at 2:00pm and 3:00pm

 

March 4th, Monday at the Graduate Open House – 6:30-8:30pm in the Student Union Building 4th Floor

March 7th, Thursday at 12:00pm noon and 4:00pm

March 12th, Tuesday at 10:00am and 2:00pm

March 13th, Wednesday at 11:00am and 3:00pm

March 18th, Monday at 1:00pm and 5:00pm

April 4th, Thursday 2:00pm and 5:00pm

April 11th, Thursday 11:00am


All sessions held at Queens College (Kissena Blvd. Flushing, NY, 11367) in Powdermaker Hall, Room 137 except where otherwise noted.

Note: Applicants must be either a US Citizen or Green Card Holder.

2. Submit formal applications: (a) To Queens College for graduate admission. (b) To the Secondary Education and Youth Services Department (SEYS) in the Division of Education for admission to the SPIRITAS program. The application form for SPIRITAS is only distributed at the information sessions.           

Deadline for cohort beginning summer session 2013 is April 19th, 2013

Note: You will need to send an official transcript with the Queens College application; an unofficial transcript is all that is required for SEYS.  Also, if you have not yet graduated you must submit a list of courses currently being taken and any future courses you plan to take in your final semester.  

4. Come to a Review Meeting: Soon after submitting your application, you will be invited to a meeting at Queens College to review your application.  At that meeting a discussion of your completed academic work will be conducted along with a discussion about any plans you have before embarking on the SPIRITAS program.
 
5. Interviews: Applicants will be interviewed once they have submitted all documents to Queens College and decisions regarding acceptance will follow the interviews.
