Study Abroad

The Queens College/Ben-Gurion University Semester Abroad Fellowship

Two outstanding Queens College students will be selected as fellows for the Fall 2013 semester and awarded grants of $5,000 each to be applied to tuition and other costs of study abroad. This fellowship will cover approximately 1/3 of the overall cost of the program. The QC/BGU Semester Abroad Fellowship is an opportunity for eligible Queens College students to be part of an enriching and immersive study abroad experience like no other.

The semester program is designed for college students seeking a formative academic period of study in one of the most fascinating places in the world. Students study Hebrew language, in addition to choosing from a variety of English-taught courses in Political Science, History, Anthropology, Arabic, Arts and Literature, Global Health, Ecology and Jewish and Israel studies.

Coursework may also be complemented by internships, independent study and volunteer opportunities. For each semester, students are required to enroll in four courses, in addition to a mandatory Hebrew language course.

A wide range of lectures, trips, hikes, cultural and sporting events are available. From mountain climbing to museum-hopping to bellydancing, there is something to suit every student and every interest.

All students enrolled in the OSP live in BGU student dormitories, which are located within a two minute walk to campus and directly across from the University sports facility and the North Beer-Sheva train station.

Unique among Israel study abroad programs, students live with Israeli roommates, providing the opportunity to foster lasting friendships and become immersed in the "real" Israel.

Scholarships Available! Two grants of $5000 will be available for Queens College students studying in Ben-Gurion University during the Fall 2013 Semester!

Admission Requirements:

In order to be selected as a QC/BGU Fellow, you must fulfill these requirements:

• Minimum GPA of 3.5

• Two letters of recommendation

• An essay of 2-3 pages explaining why you'd like to study for a semester abroad at BGU

• Signed commitment to fulfill the following obligations:

- Maintain a blog of your experience (posting every other week)

- Formal thank you letter to donors upon return

- Serve as an ambassador of the program by participating in presentations and recruitment events as requested by the QC Office of Global Education Initiatives.

Fellowship awards will be applied to program fees, which include: Tuition, Health Insurance, Dormitories, Intensive Language Study Period (Ulpan), Orientation Weekend, Various Trips and Activities

Expenses not included in program fees: Meals, Personal Expenses, International Airfare, Passport and Visa Fees, Independent Travel and Expenses
