THE DR. SCHAFFER AND MR. STERN DANCE ENSEMBLE LAUNCH
THE SEVENTH ANNUAL TIME 2000 CONFERENCE

On Friday, 14 November 2008, TIME 2000 hosted its seventh annual conference, Celebrating Mathematics Teaching. More than 350 high school students and 33 teachers were registered for the conference. Also in attendance were 80 undergraduates, 10 preservice teachers, and 11 college faculty members. The opening session featured the award-winning dance ensemble of Dr. Karl Schaffer and Mr. Erik Stern, with Saki. Local and nationally-acclaimed dynamic mathematics teachers made exciting presentations that involved the conference participants in mathematical investigations and explorations. The 80 TIME 2000 undergraduates volunteered to prepare for and assist at the conference. Several TIME 2000 graduates returned to be on the program and participate in a panel discussion conducted by Senior Asma Ismail. Texas Instruments, Inc. donated TI-Nspire handheld devices and software that were raffled off at the end of the conference. Math for America of the Simons Foundation is gratefully acknowledged for funding the conference again this year.
