JAPHETH WOOD DELIVERS THE KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT
THE THIRTEENTH ANNUAL TIME 2000 CONFERENCE

On Friday, 14 November, TIME 2000 hosted its thirteenth annual conference, Celebrating Mathematics Teaching. More than 450 high school students with more than 30 teachers attended the conference. Also in attendance were 75 undergraduates, several preservice teachers, and college faculty members. The opening session featured mathematician, Japheth Wood, New York Math Circle, Bard College. His most exciting and dynamic presentation, “Don’t Be Greedy: A Game with Rich Mathematical Opportunities,” set the tone for an outstanding conference. Local exemplary mathematics teachers made exciting presentations that involved the conference participants in mathematical investigations and explorations. The 75 TIME 2000 undergraduates volunteered to prepare for and assist at the conference. Five TIME 2000 graduates returned to be on the program and two participated in a panel discussion conducted by Senior, Nikolina Dabovic. Texas Instrument handheld devices and TIME 2000 gifts were raffled at the luncheon. Many thanks to the Jim and Marilyn Simons Foundation for generously funding the conference.
