FYI Learning Communities
The Freshman Year Initiative is a unique program that brings entering students together in two thematically linked courses during their first semester at Queens College. Most students begin their freshman year with FYI.
Taking two courses together, students in the community share common experiences beginning in the first week of classes. It’s natural to share notes, breaks, and lunch, so friendships form early. Study groups are easy to find at exam time.
How FYI Works
At Freshman Orientation you’ll register for one of 20 Learning Communities scheduled for Fall 2012. Before you attend your Freshman Orientation Workshop, consider the descriptions of the linked courses available by clicking on the communities below.
Explore your options and decide which communities look interesting to you. The earlier in the summer you are able to register for classes, the more choices for communities you’ll have.
Academic Advising staff and FYI Student Mentors will assist you in registering for FYI and the additional courses you’ll need to complete your first-semester schedule.
