Advising by Appointment​​​

Appointments are available during the fall and spring semesters for in-depth clarification and discussion on general education and degree requirements, educational planning and course selection, and other topics related to academic and professional development.​​

• When you have concerns regarding academic policies and procedures

• When you need clarification on baccalaureate and general education requirements

• When you need assistance in defining and refining your educational and professional goals

• When you need referrals to resources and offices for further assistance and exploration

• When you prepare for upcoming registration and before registration for your final semester


Update - 5/1/18 - The Academic Advising Center will not be taking appointments until the fall 2018 semester. Our walk-in hours can be found on the ride side navigation of our website.


Please read prior to making an appointment: Appointments can be made
only during the Fall and Spring semesters. To make an appointment, you must be a current undergraduate student taking classes during the current semester, or a returning student who has already filed for re-entry. New freshmen and transfers must attend orientation before meeting with an advisor. You must show up on time for your scheduled appointment slot. Students cannot edit the available appointment slot. Students who show up more than 15 minutes late will have to reschedule their appointment.

Appointments can also be made in person or via phone (718-997-5599) for regular and Skype advising sessions.


 
To make an appointment using AdvisorTrac

 

2.    Log in to AdvisorTrac using your CAMS Username and password.

3.    To schedule an appointment, click Search Availability under the Student Options

     menu on the left.

4.    From the drop down menu, change the Center to Academic Advising Center.

5.    If you wish to make an appointment with a specific advisor, look for the advisor’s name

     in the Consultant drop down menu, otherwise keep that field empty to search for the

     availability for any advisor.

6.    Modify the search options (e.g. dates, times, days, etc.). Keep in mind that the

     Academic Advising Center only offers appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays during

     the fall and spring semesters.

7.    Click Search.

9.    The available days and times for each advisor will be displayed to the right.

10.  Click on the time you would like your appointment. Please note that same day

      appointments can be made no later than 12:00PM the day of by calling 718-997

      -5599.

11.  In the Appointment Entry pop-up box, select your Reason (e.g. Graduation

      Projection, General Education Check, etc.) for the visit and your Academic Standing (e.g.

      Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior). Please also include a detailed description for the reason

      of your appointment.

12.  Click Save. The Appointment Entry pop-up box will disappear confirming that the

      appointment was successfully created.

13.  You will automatically return to the updated available appointments. A confirmation

      email with the details of the appointment will be sent to your preferred email in

      CUNYfirst and your Main Menu will reflect the upcoming appointment. ​ 


 

 
To cancel an appointment using AdvisorTrac

 

2.    Log in to AdvisorTrac using your CAMS Username and password.

3.    To cancel an appointment, click the X next to the appointment. Please cancel your

     appointment at least 48 hours in advance. This will allow someone else to choose that

     appointment slot.

4.  Enter your reason for cancelling the appointment and click the Confirm Cancellation

     button


 
To access your individual "eadvising portfolio" in AdvisorTrac

1.    Navigate to AdvisorTrac - qc.cuny.edu/advisortrac

2.    Log in to AdvisorTrac using your CAMS Username and password.

3.    Click Document Postings under the Student Options menu on the left.

4.     A list of your advising session notes and documents as of 12/13/17 will be saved into

     AdvisorTrac so you can conveniently go back and check all registration suggestions 

     and referrals made by your previous advisor(s). 



Before, During and After the Advising Session

 

Before the Meeting

• Review student transcript and DegreeWorks degree audit

• Identify unfulfilled academic requirements and prepare a list of potential courses you are considering

• Create a list of questions and concerns pertinent to your academic and professional goals

• Bring your folder containing all advising documents from previous advising sessions

• Turn off and put away your mobile phone and electronic devices prior to entering an advising session


 

During the Meeting

• Behave professionally and respectfully

• Listen carefully and take copious notes

• Ask thoughtful questions and freely articulate academic concerns

• Seek recommendations for oncampus and offcampus resources


 

After the Meeting

• Review all advising documents given to you during the advising session

• Consult with faculty advisor in academic department regarding your major and/or minor requirements

• Follow up on advisor’s recommendations and seek oncampus and offcampus resources

Academic Advising will not take place when the college is closed and on the following dates: 6/8, 6/23, 7/4 and on Fridays and Saturdays between 6/29 - 8/11 (except Friday 7/6).

Note to Fall 2018 Incoming Students: Soon after your acceptance to QC, you will receive an email from the Admissions Office requesting submission of your commitment deposit. Once it is received, you will be sent an email invitation to sign up for Freshman or Transfer Orientation.
