QUEENS COLLEGE BREAKS GROUND FOR EXPANSION OF
REMSEN HALL SCIENCE BUILDING

-- New State-of-the-Art Facility – First Phase of Expansion/Renovation – Expected to Provide More Opportunities for Students in the Sciences --

What: Groundbreaking on new, three-story, 26,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art extension to Ira Remsen Hall at Queens College. The addition, as well as the partial renovation of Remsen Hall, is scheduled to be completed and open for fall 2008. Architectural renderings will be on display.

  • New York State Senator Serphin Maltese (or his representative) will deliver a proclamation acknowledging the occasion.

Background:

The new addition to Ira Remsen Hall will house seven teaching labs, five advanced research labs, and new preparation areas where lab technicians will work – all featuring high-tech equipment.

In August 2004, the state allocated $30 million for the construction of this addition and partial renovation of the first, second and third floors of Remsen Hall. The entire construction is being phased in over 30 months. Remsen Hall was built in 1950.

“These state-of-the-art teaching and research labs will greatly enhance the educational experience for future generations of Queens College science majors,” said President James Muyskens.
