Queens College Benjamin Rosenthal Library seeks a collaborative, motivated, and service-oriented business information specialist to join its team of faculty librarians at the start of its spring 2018 semester.  The Data Services and Business Librarian, a newly defined position at Queens College Library, will participate in the design, implementation, and promotion of systems and services for discovery, management, access and integration of qualitative and quantitative datasets across the curricula at Queens College.  She/he will also serve as liaison for the Economics and Accounting departments and be responsible for providing dynamic access to information resources in business, economics, and related areas.

Reporting to the Chief Librarian, and serving as part of the Library’s Digital Initiatives team, the Data Services and Business Librarian will work closely with liaison and reference librarians, the Instruction and Digital Scholarship teams, and others to build a strong data services programs that will instill the role in the library’s efforts to design, implement, and optimize systems for management, discovery, and access to data and scholarly resources.  She/he will select, acquire, manage, and deliver licensed, free, and researcher-generated numeric data collections to support campus research and scholarship; help create and maintain a data services web presence; work with subject specialists and educational technologists to facilitate access to data resources across the disciplines; assess and market data services; and contribute to the development of research data management services.

The Data Services Librarian will participate in the Library’s instruction program, providing course-integrated library instruction and consulting expertise in the use of numeric, qualitative, and spatial data for research, including data access, analysis, collection, visualization, and preservation.  She/he will also provide reference assistance in person and online, and participate in professional and service activities that enhance the QC Library’s mission.

The successful candidate will be flexible and collaborative, and willing to learn and adapt to the changing data needs of the QC community and the library.


​Master's in Library Science (MLS), Master's in Library Information Studies (MLIS), or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution.  Also required is the ability to work with others for the good of the institution.


•    Three years of professional experience in a college or university library
•    Knowledge of business or business-related areas
•    Experience in providing in-person and online reference service
•    Administrative experience with online chat-based reference
•    Experience in providing business-related bibliographic instruction, communicating and collaborating with faculty
•    Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills
•    Experience in working with datasets that are of specific interest to business, finance, and economics research, including Bloomberg database proficiency, as well as familiarity with GIS and other data visualization tools
•    Experience with statistical concepts and methods and some familiarity in performing analysis using software such as SAS, SPSS, R, or NumPY / SciPY; as well as solid experience working with spreadsheets
