J, one of the original buildings, houses the Upward Bound Program. Upward Bound is a federally funded college preparatory program for Queens high school students from low-income familes whose parents have not graduated from a four-year college or university. The programs consists of a nonresidential summer program followed by a ten-month academic component that supplements instruction at the home schools.
