Administrative Computing

Administrative Computing services include information-processing services to the staff at both the campus and the CUNY School of Law, and support of faculty and staff throughout the campus communication network.

Major administrative systems include:
• A WEB registration system and a Telephone Information Access System (TIAS - a voice response system) that facilitates telephone registration, credit card payments, billing/financial aid reporting, and other registration-related functions.
• POS, a Point-of-Sale system used by the Bursar’s office for processing billing and payment information.
• QUASAR - (Queens Access System for Academic Registration), the Queens College variant of SIMS, an integrated student information system designed and implemented by the Management Information Systems group at CUNY (CUNY/MIS).
• Student ID card system – which generates an electronic student photo ID card.

Real-time access to the QUASAR database is accomplished throughout the campus via the campus-based local area network, Web Registration and the Telephone Information Access System.

Our registration Systems which include many new features and options including automated FAX-back services. The telephone component of the registration system includes the TTY/TDD option and the web component many more additional features (e.g. pre-registration, PNC and withdrawal, transcript ordering, change of address).

The administrative computing staff is responsible for the maintenance of Web registration, TIAS and of locally required enhancements to the core modules supplied by CUNY/MIS. This staff also develops PC based applications for individual offices on campuses.

Our operations staff provides the following services to campus and CUNY Law School personnel:
• Telephone / Web Registration Support
• QUASAR User account Support
• Distribution of specialized forms
Test scanning and scoring
• Generating data reports

All employees with direct or indirect access to our student information system (QUASAR) are reminded of the following CUNY policy regarding your computer account and the use of student data:
…. You are responsible for the safeguarding of your computer account. For a mainframe computer account, you should change your password frequently and should not disclose it to anyone. You should take all necessary precautions in protecting the account, no matter what type of computer resources you are using.
… You may not engage in unauthorized duplication, alteration or destruction of data, programs or software. You may not transmit or disclose data, programs or software belonging to others and may not duplicate copyrighted material.
