Welcome to GOTO QC

Off-Campus Access to Library Resources

Off-Campus access through the iproxy SSL-Explorer website has been discontinued.  Users with existing Forbin accounts can continue to use the Proxy Browser or proxy service with their own browser until 02/28/2006.  All other users should begin using the new GOTO QC service.

What is GOTO QC?

GOTO QC is our version of Remote Computing (also known as Remote Desktop) which allows you to use a Windows XP style login/desktop to interact with Internet Explorer so you can access all the Library online resources and databases.

You will also have viewers for Adobe Acrobat, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint so you can view documents that appear in those formats.

QC students will be the first group to use GOTO QC – eventually all members of the QC community will have access to it as well.

How to use GOTO QC

1.  Obtain a Queens College ADS computer account by logging into the following website: http://cams.qc.cuny.edu.  Reminder, your college ID is your social security number, and your PIN is your registration password or the last 6 digits of your ssn.  Click on Details to activate your account.  Be sure to activate both the Lotus Notes Email and the ADS account – they are listed on separate lines – and create the same password for each.

 2.  You must have the Remote Desktop Client available on your computer to use GOTO QC.  If you are using Windows XP it is already pre-installed on your computer (To run it, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click Communications, and then click Remote Desktop Connection).  If you are not using Windows XP, you must download the Remote Desktop Client software.  Select your operating system below, then download the executable (.exe) file to your Desktop.  Then, double click on the .exe file to install the client.

3.  Launch the Remote Desktop Client by double clicking on the icon for it on your Desktop.  You can make the following adjustments to the client to improve your experience.

A)   Click on Options

B)     You are at the General tab.  In the box for Computer: type goto.qc.cuny.edu.

C)   Select the Display tab.  For Remote Desktop Size, move the adjustable bar all the way to the right until it says Full Screen.  For Colors, click on the down arrow and select 256 Colors from the pull-down menu.

D)    Select the Local Resources tab.  At the bottom, under Local Devices, click in the box next to Disk Drives.

E)     Select the Experience tab.  Under Performance, click the down arrow and select the internet connection speed Broadband (128 Kbps – 1.5 Mbps).  If you have a dial-up connection select Modem and below it uncheck all the boxes.

F)      Select the General tab, and click the Connect button at the bottom to finish.  A pop-up security window will appear, click OK to close it.

G)   Now you are ready to login to the Remote Desktop Client.  If your settings change in the future, repeat steps A through F to reset them.

4.  Open the Remote Desktop Client, and login with your ADS account and password.   In the third box, make sure you are going to Log On To: INSTR.

5.  Once you have logged in successfully, double click on the Library icon to open Internet Explorer right to the Library website.  Make use of the online resources the same way you do when on campus (E-Reserve, E-Reference Sources, Article Databases, etc.)  For your information, in My Computer you can save files to the campus network drive (P) if you need to.
