Free Antivirus Software for Your Home Computer
CUNY students, faculty, and staff can now download free to their home computers anti-virus and anti-spyware software from Symantec through CUNY's expanded software offerings available at http://www.cuny.edu.
"The growing threats of viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and spyware make this offering an excellent opportunity for everyone at CUNY" says Senior Vice Chancellor Allan Dobrin.
To take advantage of this benefit, go to http://www.cuny.edu and log onto the portal to register.
In addition, the University recently expanded to faculty and staff benefits from its current Microsoft agreement, which provides deep discounts on select Microsoft and Microsoft Office products, including Windows XP. This offer was previously available to students only. Products such as Microsoft Office 2003 Professional for Windows or Mac users are available for purchase for just under $68, compared to prices that range from $380 to $450 from online merchants.
The anti-virus software is made possible through a combination of student technology fees and University funds. Extending it for use at home protects campus computers from viruses that might be transmitted through work done at home and sent to other computers, says Brian Cohen, the University's Chief Information Officer.
He adds, "Discounts like these from Microsoft and Symantec represent the vast opportunities available to the University by negotiating very favorable prices through our enterprise computing initiatives. Other opportunities that currently exist include discounts from Dell, Apple, and Nextel which can now be accessed at http://www.cuny.edu."
