OCT and the Provost's Office are pleased to announce the fall schedule of training classes for faculty and staff. This year we are adding the following NEW topics to our list of classes:

101 Introduction to the PC - Deals with everything from how to turn on the computer to hard drive, monitors, mouse, etc. This course, or its equivalent, is required for most other courses. prereq: none.

109 Introduction to Mac OSX - This course is designed for Mac users who want to make the switch from other versions of the operating system but are hesitant as to how to do it. Will also explain the pros and cons of upgrading. prereq: some MAC/OS experience useful.

102 Keeping your PC Secure - You'll learn how to protect your PC from viruses, use passwords, avoid spam mail, and other topics. prereq: 101 or equivalent.

204 Intermediate Word 1 - Administrative Skills - Skills needed for administrative assistants including labels, envelopes, letterheads, mail merge, etc. prereq: 104 or equivalent.

205 Intermediate Word 2- Research Skills - Skills needed for writing better research papers, including formatting, footnotes, bibliographies, and other topics. prereq: 104 or equivalent.

105 Introduction to the Internet - A thorough understanding of the Internet and how to make better use of it. Topics include the use of browsers, how to conduct a good search to get what you want, etc. prereq: 103 or equivalent.

106 Introduction to Powerpoint - Will explain the fundamentals of putting together a simple powerpoint presentation including text and images in a sequential manner. prereq: 103 or equivalent.

206 Intermediate Powerpoint - More advanced visual effects and other features. prereq: 106 or equivalent.

112 Introductory BlackBoard - Strategies for uploading course materials onto your BlackBoard course page; use of more advanced features of BlackBoard. prereq: 103 or equivalent.

212 Intermediate Blackboard - An opportunity for you to bring your own course materials and upload them to your BlackBoard course. Assistance in customizing your own Blackboard pages. prereq: 112 or equivalent.

110 Introduction to Digital Media - An introduction to transferring analog audio and video media (35mm slides, audio tape) into digital files and CDs. prereq: 103 or equivalent.

111 Introductory Adobe Acrobat - Learn how to convert documents to the popular pdf format which can then be viewed and printed on a variety of platforms.  You will also learn how to create forms that may be used online. prereq: 103 or equivalent.

In addition, the following BASIC courses will be offered again:

103 Introduction to Windows - This course picks up from the Intro to PC and deals specifically with the Microsoft Operating System and how to make the most of it. Will emphasize the concepts of the hard drive and creating files, folders, directories. prereq: 101 or equivalent.

104 Introduction to MS Word - A thorough introduction to the basics of Microsoft's powerful word processing program. Applicable for both PC and Mac users. prereq: 103 or equivalent.

107 Introduction to Excel - Emphasizes the basics of this spreadsheet program. prereq: 103 or equivalent.

207 Intermediate Excel - More advanced Excel functions will be explored. prereq: 107 or equivalent.

108 Introduction to Access -
Intended for faculty and staff needing basic database skills for their college work. prereq: 103 or equivalent.

208 Intermediate Access -
More advanced Access functions will be explored. prereq: 108 or equivalent.

Registration Information
Once you have decided which courses you would like to take based on the descriptions above, you can register. This year we are initiating an online registration format. If you have not registered before, you will be prompted to subscribe for a user id name and password. Then follow the instructions online to register for the courses you want. You will find all the information you'll need for the courses: dates, times and locations. If the workshop you select has reached its seating capacity, you will be contacted by an OCT representative and placed on a waiting list.
