Mission Statement for the Institutional Research Office

To provide data and analysis that can be used by the Queens College faculty, administration and students for decision-making, planning, and assessment on the campus.

The Office designs, develops, and implements research projects aimed at improving institutional effectiveness and supporting student learning at Queens College. The mission of the Office of Institutional Research is to provide timely, reliable information in support of long term institutional planning, academic and administrative policy formation,  and evaluation of progress towards meeting strategic planning goals.

Areas of responsibility in Institutional Research at Queens College

The Institutional Research Office compiles an annual Queens College Fact Book with statistical information for the college community. The National Survey data that is posted on our website includes the National Survey of Student Engagement results for Queens College, the COACHE Survey of Untenured Faculty, the CUNY Student Experience Survey, and IPEDS peer reports.

The Institutional Research Office provides data to various external survey companies such as College Board, U.S. News, Princeton Review, Peterson's Guide, and Wintergreen/Orchard House for various publications. In addition, the Institutional Research Office provides data for Middle States Annual Profiles and the Self-Study and Periodic Review Reports. The director is a member of the Middle States Steering Committee and the Foundations of Excellence Steering Committee, and some of the strategic planning committees on campus.

This year, a goal of the Institutional Research Office will be to strengthen its role in coordinating its efforts with others who are creating reports based on transactional data, working on enrollment management, and PMP on campus. We are working with the Office of Converging Technology to help streamline our website.

Organizational Structure

The Office of Institutional Research is part of the organizational structure of the president’s office and reports to President James Muyskens. Meg McAuliffe is director of the Institutional Research Office.
