Mission Statement for Institutional Research Office
To provide data and analysis that can be used by the Queens College faculty, administration and students for decision-making purposes, planning, and assessment on the campus.
The office designs, develops, and implements research projects aimed at improving institutional effectiveness and supporting student learning at Queens College.
Departmental Goals
Design, develop, and implement data collection, analysis, and dissemination of institutional data to support decision making at the college.
Assist faculty with the design and implementation of assessment projects pertaining to academic programs and courses.
Query databases for students and courses to obtain data for the campus.
The office uses the Institutional Research database, CUNYfirst data files and reports, and university data sets, and has access to the University Enterprise reporting system.
Assist the faculty to provide data and collect survey information for program reviews and assessment projects.
Help departments to design/select and survey instruments and other data systems.
Areas of responsibility in Institutional Research at Queens College
The Institutional Research Office compiles an annual fact book with statistical information for the college community. We compile trends in student admissions, enrollment, and FTE students for academic departments, as well as profiles of our student population. Surveys posted on our website include the National Survey of Student Engagement results for Queens College, the COACHE Survey of Untenured Faculty, the CUNY Student Experience Survey, and IPEDS peer reports.
The Institutional Research Office provides data to various external survey companies such as College Board, US News, Princeton Review, Peterson's Guide, and Wintergreen/Orchard House for various publications. This data is crucial for college rankings and listings. The office provides data for Middle States Annual Profiles and the Self-Study and Periodic Review Reports. The director is a member of the Middle States Steering Committee.
Organizational Structure
The Office of Institutional Research & Assessment is part of the organizational structure of the president’s office and reports to President James Muyskens and VP Sue Henderson. Meg McAuliffe is director of the Institutional Research Office. David Janciscs works as a graduate assistant in the office and Amanda Phan is the college assistant.
