Office of Institutional Effectiveness

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness at Queens College supports the evidence-based decision-making of administrators, faculty, and program and unit directors with the overall goal of improving institutional quality. Guided by the college’s mission for excellence in teaching and learning, its commitment to student success, and its desire to enhance the overall student experience, the office engages in institutional research and assessment activities that support strategic planning, student success initiatives, program development and evaluation, grant seeking and other fundraising endeavors, marketing, and public relations. The Office of Institutional Effectiveness aims to provide relevant and reliable data to decision-makers, strengthen and systematize institutional and student learning outcomes assessment, and broaden the engagement of faculty and staff in continuous improvement efforts through collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning and the academic and administrative units across the college.

The integrated institutional research and assessment responsibilities of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness include:

  • Collecting, organizing, and analyzing data for applied research and program evaluation related to student outcomes and the student experience;
  •  Analyzing and presenting institutional data for decision-support;
  •  Identifying metrics and presenting data to gauge progress on strategic goals and objectives;
  •  Preparing data to meet compliance reporting requirements of federal, national, regional, and state agencies (e.g., IPEDS, Middle States, NCAA, HEDS);
  • Collecting and organizing evidence that the college continues to meet the standards of accreditation of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE);
  • Providing data and information to support assessment and professional accreditation activities across the college, including departmental self-studies;
  • Providing guidance, resources, and protocols for student learning outcomes assessment;
  • Preparing data sets drawn from institutional data to support research conducted by faculty and administrators;
  • Analyzing and presenting institutional data to support operational and administrative functions;
  • Responding to ad-hoc requests for institutional data.
