Tarry Hum
Tarry Hum is Professor and Chair of the Department of Urban Studies at Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY), and an affiliate faculty member at the CUNY Graduate Center. Hum is an urban planner with a Masters in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Urban Planning from UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs. Hum’s book, Making a Global Immigrant Neighborhood: Brooklyn’s Sunset Park, received a 2015 Paul Davidoff Book Award Honorable Mention from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning. She is the lead editor of a 2021 Temple University Press volume, Immigrant Crossroads: Globalization, Incorporation, and Placemaking in Queens, NY. She regularly contributes essays on urban planning and policy, immigrant neighborhoods and housing affordability, and real estate development and gentrification in Gotham Gazette: The Place for New York City Policy and Politics and Progressive City. Hum is on sabbatical F21-S22 to complete a book manuscript on Chinese transnational capital and city building in immigrant New York.
