Queens College, often called the “jewel of the City University,” is one of the most ethnically diverse campuses in the nation. Ever since opening its doors in 1937, the college has remained true to its historical mission to provide educational opportunities to a multicultural, multinational student body. It retains much of its international flavor today as its dynamic student body includes representatives from more than 140 nations, speaking 67 languages. The suburban campus, which is easily accessible from midtown Manhattan (and only 10 minutes from the Mets’ new home in Citi Field and Flushing Meadows Corona Park), covers 77 tree-lined acres. Classes are scheduled throughout the day, including late afternoon and early evening, to provide working students with the flexibility they need to earn their degrees.
Queens College offers a wide range of master’s degrees and advanced certificates in the liberal arts, sciences, social sciences, and teacher education, including the Master of Arts, Master of Fine Arts, and Master of Science in Education. Queens College also offers a post-master’s advanced certificate in School Building Leader, and post-baccalaureate advanced certificates in Applied Behavioral Analysis and in early childhood, elementary, and secondary education.
Queens College is the only CUNY institution which offers a Master of Library Science and a post-master’s advanced certificate in librarianship, both accredited by the American Library Association. The Aaron Copland School of Music, one of the oldest and most distinguished departments at the college, offers degrees in both theory and performance.
The college’s scholarly resources and modern facilities provide graduate students quality education at a reasonable cost in a richly supportive learning environment. The college is a member of two online computer services that link universities, supercomputing facilities, and industrial research centers in New York State and serve as high-speed gateways to the Internet and other national computing networks.
Queens College is home to the Louis Armstrong House and Archives, Kupferberg Center for the Performing Arts, the Godwin-Ternbach Museum, and the Benjamin Rosenthal Library, which along with the college’s extensive physical education facilities, provide students with a well-rounded college experience.
Graduate study at Queens College enables students to enhance their career potential with new professional skills while broadening their intellectual perspective through research and scholarship.
