Physical Education: Bachelor of Science (BS)

Students who aim to teach physical education may earn a bachelor’s degree that leads to New York State Initial Certification (pre-kindergarten through grade 12), with a concentration in human movement, sports, and exercise science. The program prepares graduates to become movement specialists in the primary grades, sports instructors in the middle and upper grades, and health-related fitness specialists.

Besides a rigorous curriculum, students participate in field experiences in schools, culminating in a semester of student teaching. The program sponsors two collaborative projects with schools in the NYC area: Project SCOPE, which involves partnership between school practitioners and college faculty; and Project PATH, which seeks to improve the health and fitness of adolescents and young adults.
