Although tuition at Queens College is significantly lower than at many other institutions of higher education, many of our students need some sort of financial aid to help pay for college or graduate school. The Office of Financial Aid Services provides information and counseling to all students on the various financial aid programs (grants, work, and loans) offered by New York State and the federal government. Counselors assist students with the completion and processing of aid applications, and help them avoid and resolve related problems. Students experiencing a major negative change in their family’s financial situation should contact their financial aid counselor, with documentation, to see if the change can affect their aid eligibility. Staff are professional, and they value the student's and the family's confidentiality.
Aid awarded for some students may cover more than tuition and fees. CUNY estimates of expenses such as books, transportation, room and board are also considered. Aid applications must be completed annually and aid is awarded for one academic year. There is no charge to file these applications.
The office maintains a comprehensive website, and students may check the status of their financial aid applications and awards through a variety of online systems. The office's web site also includes links to a wide variety of on-campus and off-campus resources. The office offers workshops in financial literacy to educate QC students about managing debt, and to help them become savvy consumers.
