Journalism (minor)
In our media-intensive environment, journalism is an essential field that combines communication with a constantly evolving technical skill set. It is ideal for people having excellent verbal and writing abilities and in-depth knowledge of newsworthy content areas, such as politics, urban issues, sports, and other fields.

The 21-credit journalism minor is part of the Urban Studies Department, where coursework is taught by faculty who have news media experience. With a strong emphasis on good writing, courses teach reporting, writing, and editing skills; the basics of broadcast journalism; and knowledge of the news media as an industry. Students use current technology to access information and explore new avenues of news distribution, learn to produce television news stories, and meet news professionals.

Minors are encouraged to consider journalism as a career. There are internships available in print, broadcast, and Internet news organizations.
