QUEENS COLLEGE FEATURED IN THE PRINCETON REVIEW GUIDEBOOK
AMERICA'S BEST VALUE COLLEGES
-- Editors Cite “First-Rate Education” at a “Bargain Price” --
FLUSHING, NY, May 7, 2007 – According to the Princeton Review, Queens College is one of the nation's “best value” undergraduate institutions. The New York-based education services company features the school in the 2008 edition of America's Best Value Colleges, which was released April 24. The guidebook profiles 165 colleges chosen for their excellent academics, generous financial aid packages and/or relatively low costs of attendance.
In its profile of Queens College, which has an annual tuition of $4,000 for New York State residents, the Princeton Review's editors comment: “All [students] appreciate that there are few cheaper opportunities to receive a first-rate education in New York City (Cooper Union, which is free, is probably the only better deal).”
The editors also cited Queens for having “the best reputation of all the CUNY undergraduate institutions,” and went on to describe the vibrant student life – there are more than 120 student clubs – as well as attractive campus, diverse student body and helpful faculty.
More than half of Queens’s undergraduates receive need-based financial aid. Many full and partial scholarships are available, as well as tuition waivers for qualified students through the Teachers Academy, Macaulay Honors College and MARC program, which also provides a $10,000 stipend to underrepresented minorities who are pursuing biomedical careers.
The Princeton Review selected the schools for America’s Best Value Colleges based on data it obtained from administrators at more than 650 colleges during the 2005-06 academic year, and its surveys of students attending the schools. Says Robert Franek, Vice President-Publishing, "We considered over 30 factors to identify our 'best value' colleges. They covered four areas: Academics, Tuition GPA (the sticker price minus average amount students receive in scholarships and grants), Financial Aid (how well colleges meet students' financial need), and Student Borrowing. The 90 public and 75 private colleges we chose for this edition offer a terrific education, plus they have impressive records of meeting students' needs for financial aid. We highly recommend them as America's best college education deals."
Queens College is also consistently included in the Princeton Review The Best 361 Colleges guidebook and in U.S. News America’s Best Colleges.
