BACKGROUND:

Originated by Assemblywoman Naomi Rivera (D-Bronx), “Walk With Me” is a statewide initiative with simultaneous walks taking place on college campuses across New York State. Queens College students will carry homemade posters and signs addressing domestic violence during their march; 30 t-shirts decorated through the Clothesline Project will be on display both on the quad and in the Student Union, and a display on the history of domestic violence will be on view in the Student Union lobby. The Clothesline Project, which began in 1990 as a way to raise awareness of domestic abuse against women, features personal messages and statements written on t-shirts and then hung on a clothesline as a testimony to victims of abuse. Co-sponsors of the event are the President’s Office, Counseling & Advisement, Peer Advisement, the Student Association, the QC Women’s Center, the Office of Communications, Health Services, United People, Hillel, Bengali S.A., Muslim S.A., the Science Organization of Minority Students, Psi Chi, Political Science Club, Women’s Center, and the History Club.
