OPEN HOUSE FOR QUEENS COLLEGE ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMS
TO TAKE PLACE ON JUNE 12
--Reps Will be Available from Adult Collegiate Education and Weekend Programs, and Six Departments Offering Evening Majors--
FLUSHING, May 20, 2005—Queens College will hold an Open House for its adult education programs on Sunday, June 12, from 12 - 3 pm in the Welcome Center of Jefferson Hall on the Flushing campus. It is the college’s first Open House to focus on all prospective students (whatever their age) who are interested in earning an undergraduate degree with support services on the weekend or in the evening. Those attending will learn about the Weekend College program, academic departments that offer majors through evening classes, and the Adult Collegiate Education (ACE) Program for individuals 25 years and older.
Weekend College provides the opportunity to earn a degree in accounting, sociology or psychology. Flexible scheduling, with some day and evening courses, offers the possibility of earning a degree in most other majors. The academic departments that offer evening majors include accounting, economics, mathematics, sociology, psychology, and urban studies. ACE offers students over 25 a peer classroom environment for the first two years and the opportunity to earn life achievement credits towards a bachelor’s degree. The last two years of the program are taken with the general Queens College student body during the week, in the evening and on weekends.
The range of services available on the weekend includes general and major academic advising, library access, computer labs, cafeterias, student laboratories, state-of-the-art classrooms with the latest technology, student lounges, and an active Student Government. A variety of professional development and lifelong learning skills workshops are being planned for Saturdays and Sundays at noon.
