QUEENS COLLEGE ART EDUCATION STUDENTS PERFORM SHOW

WITH GIANT PUPPETS FOR NEW YORK HOSPITAL PEDIATRIC PATIENTS

--Children to Receive Hand-Made Toys and Participate in a Puppetry Workshop--

WHAT: The Queens College Puppeteers will perform a puppet show for pediatric patients with giant puppets and musical accompaniment by internationally known New York-based percussionist Laraaji Nadananda.
WHEN: Thursday, May 6, from 5 - 6 pm
WHERE: Department of Pediatrics (Ward 4 North)
New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens
56-45 Main Street, Flushing

BACKGROUND: The 19 puppeteers, most of whom are New York City teachers, will perform the show live for hospitalized children as part of their final examination in a graduate education craft class. They will also teach a puppetry workshop and donate hand-made toys to the children.“One of the Queens College ‘principles for education’ includes ways for students to make meaningful connections with families and urban communities. These students have worked hard to develop the skills to create well-crafted, well-designed puppets with an expressive performance that will delight their young audience,” said Dr. Rikki Asher, Director of Art education at Queens College and the puppeteers’ leader.

The puppeteers are graduate education students in the college’s Secondary Education department at Queens College.
