BACKGROUND:
The Summit, a $72 million project financed without public funds through tax-exempt bonds and constructed by the Capstone Development Corp., opened on August 26 for the 2009 fall semester. The college’s first-ever residence hall—now filled to 98% capacity—is five stories and contains 506 beds: 17 for resident assistants and staff and 489 for students. Most of the rooms are fully-furnished, two- and four-bedroom suites that were built to meet the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) requirements for silver certification. The Summit has wireless Internet throughout, a state-of-the-art fitness center, laundry facility, soundproof music practice rooms and quiet rooms for study.
