Summit Wins Queens Chamber of Commerce Design Award

FLUSHING, NY, January 13, 2010 -- The Summit, Queens College’s first residence hall, continues to rise to new heights, having recently being named a winner in the Queens Chamber of Commerce Building Awards competition for “excellence in design for the betterment of the community.”

The Summit beat out over 100 other competitors vying for this honor. Goshow Architects and Capstone Development, which built the Summit, also received awards at a gala celebration held by the Chamber this past December at Terrace on the Park.

Located between Fitzgerald Gymnasium and Rosenthal Library, the Summit opened in August 2009 to 98% capacity.  Visitors entering the five-story building step into a light-filled atrium reminiscent of some hotel lobbies. The Summit contains 506 beds: 17 for resident assistants and staff and 489 for students.  In keeping with Queens College’s commitment to sustainability, the design of the building meets Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) requirements for Silver certification.
