Queens College Golf & Tennis Classic Will Salute Alum Donna Orender, Named a Leading Woman in Sports by Fox Sports and Business Week
 

  -- Sixth Annual Tournament on Sept. 12 Will Benefit Athletic Scholarships; Leading Fundraiser and Alumna Barbara Leshinsky Also Will Be Honored --

FLUSHING, NY, AUGUST 26, 2011 The Queens College Foundation hopes to score a hole-in-one for QC student athletic scholarships at its sixth annual Golf and Tennis fundraiser at the Fresh Meadows Country Club in Lake Success, N.Y., on September 12.  This year’s tournament will honor two QC alumnae –leading fundraiser Barbara Leshinsky and accomplished athlete and marketing pro Donna Orender.  Fees for the day start at $150 (dinner only), $250 (tennis) and $450 (golf), with a variety of sponsorship opportunities available for individual and group donors.  Sign-in/locker assignments start at 10:30 am for golf and 11:30 am for tennis.

Barbara Leshinsky is executive vice president of development for the Advertising Council, where she oversees all organizational fundraising activities and leads their board’s development and cultivation efforts.  With nearly 25 years of fundraising experience, she has demonstrated expertise in capital and annual campaign execution, foundation relations and special event planning. Previously Leshinsky served as associate ... dean for institutional advancement at New York Law School. She currently serves on the UJA Sports for Youth Committee and is an advisory board member for the Women’s Sports Foundation.  Leshinsky had a long career in college athletics, which included her service as a coach for QC’s tennis team.  She holds a B.S. in Health and Physical Education and an M.S. in Educational Administration from Queens College.

Fox Sports called Donna Orender one of the top 10 most powerful women in sports and Business Week named her to its list of the 100 most influential people in sports.  Currently the CEO of Orender Unlimited, a sales, marketing and media consulting firm, Orender is also an accomplished athlete. As president of the Women’s National Basketball Association for six years before launching her own business, she was credited with creating significant business momentum that led to growth in fan attendance, television ratings, sponsorship sales and new marketing initiatives.  For 17 years she served in executive positions on the PGA Tour, overseeing global television, production and digital media.  Orender currently serves on the boards of the Monique Barr Foundation for Children and the V Foundation for Cancer Research.  Orender has a B.S. in psychology from Queens College.
