Omar Azziman, Morocco's Former Justice Minister and Member of New Constitution & Transition Team, to Speak at Queens College

-- Will Deliver First Official Open Public Talk in New York City About Morocco's Recent Democratic Reforms --

WHAT: "Democratic Reforms in Morocco" talk
WHO: Omar Azziman, distinguished Moroccan statesman, human rights reformer and scholar, will give the first official public talk in NYC about Morocco's recent silent democratic revolution. a former Minister of Justice, Azzimanis a leading member of the new Moroccan constitution and transition team. He serves as the president-delegate of the Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Residing Abroad; holds the UNESCO Chair of Human Rights at the Mohammed V University; and is a permanent member of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco
Azziman will be available for media interviews before and at the lecture.

BACKGROUND:
This event is sponsored by the CMAL department, with support from the Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language (UISFL) Program of the U.S. Department of Education. It is one of several monthly events the department is hosting on campus this semester; at least half will focus on Moroccan culture and studies in cooperation with the Moroccan government. The college has received a two-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education to create a major in Middle Eastern Studies, and plans have begun to develop a Center for Middle Eastern and North African studies on campus.
