Rock and Roll Diplomat: QC Music Professor Salman Ahmad Leads State Department Officials in Song Following Meeting on U.S. - Pakistani Relations


Salman Ahmad is an internationally known “Muslim rock star,” medical doctor, U.N. Goodwill ambassador and author who also happens to teach songwriting and Islamic music and culture at Queens College. On Thursday, December 15, at the invitation of the State Department, Ahmad met with Ambassador Marc Grossman, President Obama’s special representative to Pakistan and Afghanistan to discuss U.S. – Pakistani Relations.

    Following the meeting, Ahmad participated in a roundtable discussion of his book, Rock and Roll Jihad, and broader US - Pakistan relations with officials from the State Department, Department of Defense, and the Pakistan Embassy. He also gave a musical performance as part of the event in which he led State Department officials in song.
