Queens College Choir Will Perform Free Concert at Lefrak Hall on Feb. 8 Prior to Prestigious East Coast Tour


FLUSHING, N.Y., January 23, 2012 –The Queens College Choir of the Aaron Copland School of Music under the direction of Professor James John will perform a free public concert on Feb. 8 at 12:15 pm in LeFrak Hall as a prelude to their East Coast tour the following week. The choir will perform a program of well-known works by Victoria, Brahms, Rautavaara and Penderecki at Old South Church in Boston and the Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art in Providence.  The Feb. 8 QC concert will be longer and also feature pieces by ACSM Professors Joel Mandelbaum and Bruce Saylor, as well as solo and piano works showcasing the talent of individual choir members.

 

The QC choir is one of only 17 collegiate choirs, choruses and glee clubs selected by

competitive competition by the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Eastern Division to perform in Veterans Memorial Hall in Providence on Feb. 16 as part of their biennial regional conference. With a membership of choral directors representing over one million singers throughout the US, ACDA is considered one of the nation’s most prominent professional choral organizations.

 

Recognized as one of the finest collegiate choirs in the region, QC’s principal undergraduate choral ensemble is comprised of 35-40 undergraduate music majors who have performed at a wide variety of prestigious venues on the East Coast, including Carnegie Hall and St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
