Spider-Man Makes Queens College Cooler

In celebration of the July 3 release of “The Amazing Spider-Man,” the movie's title character stopped by Queens College to help coat the roof of King Hall with a reflective white surface. Part of a NYC º Cool Roofs initiative, the reflective coating is designed to cut down on energy usage, reduce cooling costs, and lower greenhouse gas emissions – the college’s latest step toward achieving an even “greener” campus. Helping Spidey are (left to right) QC student Abiroop Dutta and QC Buildings & Grounds maintenance worker Randy Funk.

NYC º Cool Roofs is a collaboration between NYC Service and the NYC Department of Buildings to promote and facilitate the cooling of the city’s rooftops. QC was one of the web-slinger’s stops throughout the five boroughs in a nationwide day of service, sponsored by NYC Service and Sony Pictures Entertainment, that calls on New Yorkers to volunteer their time, talents and skills in giving back to their communities.
