Queens Collge Choral Society Concludes its 75th Anniversary Season with May 21 Performance of Verdi's Requiem

--
The Queens College Choir and Women’s Choir Will Join the Choral Society to Create a 200-Singer Ensemble Accompanied by the Full Queens College Orchestra --

FLUSHING, NY, May 9, 2016 — To celebrate the conclusion of its 75th anniversary season, the Queens College Choral Society will perform Verdi’s Requiem on Saturday, May 21, at 8 pm in Colden Auditorium. Completed in 1874, Verdi’s Requiem is a masterpiece of dramatic power and scope, unrivaled in its beauty, magnitude, and intensity, and is a perennial favorite with singers and audiences alike.

The Choral Society will be joined by the Queens College Choir and Women’s Choir, creating an ensemble of 200 singers, and will be accompanied by a full orchestra. Professional soloists will include Eleni Calenos, soprano, Rebecca Ringle, mezzo-soprano, Jin Byun, tenor, and Kevin Thompson, bass. James John, Professor of Music and Director of the QC Choral Society, will conduct.

The Choral Society is “a singing organization of and for the public, and the students and staff of Queens College.” QCCS is unique in the diversity of singers: from high school musicians through the high school outreach program, to singers who have performed with the society for over 40 years, QCCS is a treasure in the borough. The Society typically performs two concerts each year with orchestra (in December and May) devoted to the masterpieces of choral literature, such as Brahms’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and Britten’s War Requiem. The QCCS has also performed multiple premieres of new works, including pieces composed by Queens College Music School’s faculty.

Tickets are $20 and are available through the Kupferberg Center Box office at (718) 793-8080 or online at www.kupferbergcenter.org. Group discounts for high school students and teachers are also available. To take advantage of this offer, visit www.qcchoralsociety.org
