KOREAN CONSUL GENERAL KIM KYUNG-KEUN TO VISIT QUEENS COLLEGE

WHAT: In an effort to explore and develop constructive relationships and cooperative programs with major institutions of higher learning in the Republic of Korea, Queens College President James Muyskens will host the Consul General of Korea in New York Kim Kyung-keun and his educational and cultural consuls at a luncheon reception. Consul General Kim, who just completed the first year of his appointment, will be introduced to Queens College faculty, students of Korean descent and leaders of the Korean community.

BACKGROUND: Consul General Kim Kyung-keun has led a distinguished career in the foreign service of the Republic of Korea, holding prominent positions in the Korean government and abroad. From 1981 to 1998, his foreign appointments include posts in Korean embassies in Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Belgium, Israel and Thailand. He has also held senior positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as Ambassador to Jordan. Consul General Kim has also served as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Social and Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and held posts in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade and its affiliated organization, the Overseas Koreans Foundation. He began his duties as Consul General in New York in September 2007.

Consul General Kim graduated from the Korea University College of Law in Seoul and has studied at the University of Pennsylvania’s graduate school. In 2005, he was awarded a citation of the First Independent Order from the Government of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
