ASPIRING BACHS AGED 8 TO 16 WILL PERFORM CONCERTOS AND OPERA
ARIA AT QUEENS COLLEGE CONCERT ON SUNDAY, MARCH 9

-- 30 Students from the College’s Center for Preparatory Studies in Music
Auditioned for This Coveted Performance Opportunity --

WHAT: A concert of concertos and opera music performed by nine students aged eight to 16 from the Lawrence Eisman Center for Preparatory Studies in Music (CPSM) at Queens College. Each student will play a movement from a concerto by composers Bach, Vivaldi, Haydn, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, accompanied by the CPSM chamber orchestra. One student will sing an aria from Henry Purcell’s opera Dido & Aeneas.

TICKETS: Tickets are $5 and may be purchased from the CPSM office prior to the event:
Room 337 or at the door of LeFrak Concert Hall on the day of the concert.

BACKGROUND:

The Lawrence Eisman Center for Preparatory Studies in Music at Queens College offers a complete program of instruction for young musicians aged three to 18 who wish to develop performance skills and an understanding of music theory and literature. Included among CPSM’s wide variety of courses are private instruction for all orchestral and band instruments, piano, voice and guitar; musicianship; orchestra; jazz ensemble, chamber music, chorus, Suzuki piano, violin and cello; and specialized classes for the very young.

Approximately 75 new students are accepted into the program each year. Admission is by audition, interview and placement exam, which are held in January and May. Over 400 students are currently enrolled at CPSM.
