Nobel Laureate in Economics Amartya Sen Speaks at Queens College March 6 on "Social Demands of Justice"

-- Sen’s Presentation is the Keynote Address for the College’s Year Of India,
a Multidisciplinary Exploration of the Country’s Rich History and Culture --  

WHAT:          Year of India keynote address on the Social Demands of Justice by Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen. Hosted by Carl Riskin, distinguished professor of economics at Queens College, who specializes in environmental and development economics. Free and open to the public.

Background: Amartya Sen received the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences from the Nobel Foundation in 1998 “for his contributions to welfare economics.” He is the Thomas W. Lamont University Professor, and Professor of Economics and Philosophy, at Harvard University. Until 2004, Sen was the master of Trinity College, Cambridge University, in England. His books have been translated into more than 30 languages; his most recent work is The Idea of Justice. Among his many professional accomplishments, Sen has served as president of the Econometric Society, the American Economic Association, and the International Economic Association.
