Kupferberg Center Continues its Spring 2017 Season with Musical Comedy, Afro-Peruvian Music, R&B, and "The Dog Whisperer"

Susan Baca and Nano Stern
March 19 at 3 pm
LeFrak Concert Hall

Afro-Peruvian legend Susana Baca returns to Queens after a six-year absence from New York City stages for an intimate performance at LeFrak Concert Hall. Baca, originally from Chorrillos, Peru, is credited for paying homage to the African presence in the Americas. “Our whole selves are about the mixture of Spanish Indian and African cultures,” said Baca, when her latest album “Afrodiaspora” was released. Baca’s songs are drawn from places where Afro descendants live and they celebrate the way that African presence has influenced Latin American culture. The New York Times called Baca an “ambassador of Afro-Peruvian music to the rest of the world.”
An exciting addition to the March 19th program is the opening act, Chilean singer and songwriter Nano Stern, who will be completing a tour of the east coast. Sterns’ approach as an artist combines richly-crafted song lines laid by his family and his Chilean musical ancestry to create a fresh and relevant sound. He has been described as a powerhouse artist, brilliantly layering indigenous, African, and European elements into a sound all his own.
