Federal Work-Study (FWS)
Students who are interested in applying for Federal Work-Study (FWS) for Fall 2007-Spring 2008 can do so by completing a 2007-2008 FAFSA.  File early - funds are limited.  

If you have been awarded FWS for 2007-2008 and are interested in working in the summer'07 you must be willing to work off-campus in a community service job.  Contact the FWS Coordinator in the Financial Aid Office for more information.

The Federal Work-Study Program will start placement for students awarded academic year 2007-2008 FWS beginning the week of August 20 , 2007 and continue during the Fall semester.  Only students who have received a work-study award should come for placement. PLACEMENT INFORMATION WILL BE INCLUDED WITH YOUR AWARD NOTICE. YOU MUST FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS AND BRING WITH YOU ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS.

*If you cannot come during the August 20th week of placement, you may come when classes begin and throughout the semester.  There will be plenty of jobs available.

Eligible Students
To accept the award, you must:
* be a matriculated student in a degree program at Queens College, and enrolled at least half-time (6 credits)
* be in good standing and making satisfactory progress toward a degree, based on guidelines for Federal Title IV student aid
* not be in default of a Federal Perkins Loan or Direct Loan
* not owe a refund of a Federal Pell Grant or Federal SEOG or other Federal aid
* meet other eligibility requirements (eg citizenship status, etc).

STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR FWS PLACEMENT

ON CAMPUS PLACEMENT

Before you come to the Financial Aid Office for ON CAMPUS placement, please follow these steps:
  1. Review Work-Study job postings.
  2. Select and print the positions that interest you.
  3. Download and complete the following forms:
Please make additional copies of the Student checklist and Confidentiality Statement for your own records.

After completing the above forms, please follow this additional step

  1. You must bring the above forms to the FWS Coordinator in the Financial Aid Office for placement. THIS STEP MUST BE DONE BEFORE YOU SEE THE DEPARTMENT SUPERVISOR.
--you will receive a Job Referral Form.
--you must also bring proof of citizenship status to submit with the I-9 form above:
Your US Passport OR alien registration card
OR
Your Driver's License or QC ID / AND Your social security card

The forms available above must all be completed and submitted during job placement.  Placement for registered students for Fall 2007 will take place as follows:

The Financial Aid Office (JH 202) will begin placement for the Fall 2007 on August 20, 2007 and CONTINUE THROUGH THE WEEK. If you cannot make the placement in August you may come during the semester. The earlier you seek placement, the more choices you will have in job openings.


Pay Rate
The pay rate for on-campus jobs has been increased to $ 8.00 an hour for undergraduate students, and $ 10.00 an hour for graduate students.  The off campus pay rate varies depending on the job.  You are only paid for hours worked in the job in which we place you, and may not work beyond your award.

Not Awarded FWS?
There will be a "sign-up" sheet at the front desk in the Financial Aid Office during the first DAYS of classes of the Fall '07 semester for those students who did not receive an award but have filed the FAFSA and are interested in Federal Work-Study. You can also check throughout the academic year for availability of funds.
