The Hispanic/ Latino population will become 24% of the total population in the United States by 2050.The largest concentrations are in Los Angeles, California, Miami, Florida, and New York, New York. The estimated population of Queens in 2009 was 2,306,712 with 26.9% of the total population being of Hispanic/Latino origin. The largest groups of Hispanic/Latino immigrants that came to Queens in the late 1980s and early 1990s immigrated from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Ecuador and Columbia. Queens neighborhoods with the largest populations of Hispanic/Latino people are Corona, North Corona, Elmhurst and Jackson Heights.
