On Wednesday December 6th 2017, The Student Council of the Asian\/American Center held a student forum on civic participation and shared their experiences working as volunteers for AALDEF Exit Poll Survey for the 2017 Local Election. The talk included a presentation of AALDEF’s results from their Exit Poll Survey by Jerry Vatamala, the director of the democracy program at AALDEF.<\/p>\n

Asian\/American Center Scholarship recipients were announced by Ms. Eugenia Ames, the scholarship donor. English and American Studies Professor Bette Weidman was honored for her fifteen years of service on Asian\/American Center’s Advisory Board. The honorees at this celebration were Professor Pyong Gap Min, Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Stanley Mark esq., a civil rights attorney from the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund. The program began with moving testimonies by two young women activists, Davanie Singhroy from Sadhana and Zeinab Akberzai from Women for Afghan Women, which were followed by a \u201cKnow Your Rights Workshop\u201d by representatives from the NYC Mayor\u2019s Office of Immigrant Affairs, Brooklyn Defender Services, and Faith in NY.
